Whichaway Oasis & Atka Bay
Off the Beaten, Nature & Wildlife
This is the ultimate once in a lifetime trip. Experience a stay at Antarctica’s first and only luxury camp at Whichaway Oasis on the Queen Maud Land, accessible only by private charter flight from Cape Town in South Africa.
Get acquainted with a breeding colony of Emperor Penguins, the largest of its kind in the world. You will also have the opportunity to extend your stay and lay claim as one of the few to have ever flown to the lowest point on Earth at the Geographic South Pole.

Our journey begins with a 5-hour flight from Cape Town to Antarctica, crossing the Southern Ocean and Polar Circle into a land of 24-hour daylight. Upon landing in Wolf’s Fang Runway, flanked by kilometre-high vertical ice rocks, you will be transferred to the camp and you can enjoy a gentle trek around the oasis.

Enjoy camp activities such as gentle treks, nunatak summiting, ice climbing, abseiling into crevasses or simply enjoying your camp facilities while immersing in relaxing yoga or meditation.

Today, we fly 2 hours over spectacular vistas of the high Polar Plateau before landing at the site of Atka Bay emperor penguin colony, home more than 6,000 penguins and their chicks and site of the first episode of Sir David Attenborough’s ground-breaking documentary titled “Seven Worlds”. A land unfrequented by men means these majestic birds are naturally curious as you capture your very own “March of the Penguins” before flying back.

Explore the surreal ice waves and tunnels beneath the camp. Meander back on an Arctic Truck safari through panoramic vantage points of the surrounding snow and ice on your return to camp.

Gain insights with talks from our polar explorer experts on some of the lesser-known Antarctica history and record-breaking expeditions. Thereafter, we enjoy abseiling off a nunatak mountain.

Finally, we bid farewell to your unforgettable Antarctic adventure on a 5-hour flight to Cape Town. We absolutely recommend extending your stay in South Africa to discover a world of incredible wildlife!

Hop on a DC3 Bassler Turbo prop plane for your 5-hour flight across fantastic mountain ranges to 83° South. Enjoy a walk on the high polar plateau as the plane refuels for 1 hour. Finally, we fly another 2 hours to the holy grail of early explorers, the incredible South Pole where you can count yourself the very few lucky people. There will be plenty of time to take photos and stamp your passport before flying back to your wilderness camp on 83° South for overnight on the plateau.
Please note that the South Pole has an apparent altitude of 4,000m with ambient temperature -25° C, thus may not be suitable for those with pre-conditions for altitude sickness.

After a hearty breakfast, we fly 5 hours back while appreciating the immense scale of the Frozen Continent. Back in the luxury polar pod, enjoy a sumptuous three-course dinner with champagne to celebrate your achievement of having visited the southernmost point of Earth.

Embark on an adventurous hike along winding cliff led by a world-class mountain guides, where you will be bestowed with breath-taking aerial view of ice sea waves, folded over millennia by constant ocean pressure.
